In one respect, the Atlantic opening is farther west than the Pacific opening. While transferring through the Panama Canal, one rises in elevation somewhat higher before returning to sea level, than one does through the Suez Canal. Another significant difference is the length. The Suez Canal is around 190km in length, whilst the Panama Canal is about 80 km long.

The Suez canal is by far longer over l00 miles. it is on level terrain, so to speak and does not employ locks. at one time there were movable bridges across the canal for traffic control, but these were more like gigantic semaphores and not true canal locks involving taking on and off water and flooding chambers, etc. The Empress Eugenie was regarded as the patroness of the Suez canal and was fittingly the inspiration for the fictional mascot Phoebe Snow used by the DL&W railroad and ferry ops.

The Suez Canal is longer. According to the Egypt State Information Service, the Suez Canal is about 190 kilometres long, over twice as long as the Panama Canal, which is about 80 kilometres long.
