Spectroscopic surveys are based on the fact that the colors you see in everything are not in the object being observed, but is the result of the fact that the elements that make up the object, are reflecting that part of the spectrum of light that strikes it. Spectroscopic analysis will give researchers an idea of the basic makeup of the star.

Its all to do with the composition of the star, the different elements present in the star will give of different spectra - spectroscopy. Different atoms and molecules give off energy, relating to the unique arrangements of electrons in orbit around their nucleus, the higher energy will be towards the blue end of the spectrum and the lower energy towards the red end.

So the light received from a star will show what atoms are present when the light is spread out into into its different parts. Other physical properties can also be derived from this method, such as the velocity of the star and their temperature.

The three properties that you can determine by observing the star's spectrum is the stars surface temperature. The chemical makeup of the photosphere and its Doppler shift of spectrum lines.

What are some ways you could be identified through forensic science?

Fingerprints. Blood group. DNA Fibre analysis.

Suppose you want to know the chemical composition of a distant star Which piece of information is most useful to you?

A telescope, whose light output would be sent through a spectral analysis machine of some type. That analysis of the emission spectra of the star would be compared to the known spectra of the elements to find the composition of the star.

How was helium identified on the sun with a spectroscope?

Every element, when heated, sends out light with characteristic spectral lines. These same lines are also absorbed when the element is present in an atmosphere between a light source and the observer. When studying spectral lines of the sun some lines were noted that were not known on earth, from which we concluded that there must be an inknown new element. Which was subsequently found on earth.

Any particular element can always be identified by?

The elements are identified by atomic number. The atomic number is equal to the number of protons in each atom of the element. Of course the elements are usually identified their symbols, which are arbitrary.

What are the characteristics of scientific theories?

Scientific theories are based on observation, usually involve some form of mathematical analysis, and can be tested by experiment or by additional observation.

What characteristics does a normal nasopharyngeal culture have?

Bacteria that normally grow in the nose cavity will be identified by a nasopharyngeal culture. These include nonhemolytic streptococci, alpha-hemolytic streptococci, some Neisseria species, and some types of staphylococci.

How are diamonds identified?

Once a stone is cut, polished and graded, it can be identified by its cut, colour, carat weight and its clarity in combination. A certified gemologist who provides a certificate for a stone can generally document any stone's unique characteristics, so that it can be identified given this combination of variables. As well, some stones are identified with lasered identification symbols and numbers on the girdle -- invisible to the naked eye, but easy to see with a jeweler's 10x loop.

What is role of labs for report of a liquid?

To make a chemical analysis o f the liquid; sometimes a microbiological report is a attached, some physical characteristics determined, etc.

Characteristics of descriptive research?

Descriptive research is used to describe characteristics of a population or phenomenon being studied. It does not answer questions about how/when/why the characteristics occurred. Rather it addresses the "what" question.
