The Xin dynasty, established by Wang Mang, ruled China for a brief period from 9 AD to 23 AD, making it the shortest dynasty in Chinese history. Wang Mang seized power in a coup, disrupting the Western Han dynasty, but his reign ended with his death during a rebellion. The instability and unpopular reforms during his rule contributed to its rapid downfall.
There was no time limit or constraint as to how long or how little a dynasty could rule. A dynasty in ancient China was basically the time period where people of same lineage (family) were the ruling authority or in imperial China's case : emperor. A dynasty started when China was under full (or near full) control of a new family and ended when the emperor of that family was deposed. Thus there were no time limits.
