The ancient Mesoamerican civilizations, such as the Aztecs and the Mayans, are credited with inventing chocolate. They consumed cacao beans in a bitter drink long before it was sweetened and turned into the chocolate we know today.
Chocolate is'nt actually named after anyone or anything. Chocolate comes from coacoa beans so they got the name from that.Hope this helps x x x

Chocolate, originally called Cacao by the Aztec's that discovered it around 1,400 BC, was used as a drink and herb to be added to food.
The first chocolate did not have sugar, vanilla or other added sweeteners in it. Not until Joseph Fry added them. It was all a big secret until someone told their husbandabout their farms for cacao beans in England and then since both the princess and they prince new, soon it spread to France and then many other countries in Europe. After world war 2 was over, the soldiers that survived were in a parade and they through out chocolate to celebrate. many people love chocolate but imagine having to eat it before Joseph fry made it good. first chocolate was a drink. It was water and ground up cacao bean which is disgustiongly bitter. THen, someone decided to make it solid, some thousands of years after the roman emperoer drank 50 cups of this bitter drink. The Mayans and the Aztecs loved it so much that they used the caco beans that are inside tha cacao pod as money. The difference between cacao and cocoa is that cacao is he bean or tree or pod and stuff and cocoa is like the chocolate, hot COCOA and many other yummy things.
To brew cacao for hot chocolate, heat milk in a saucepan until warm. Add cacao powder and sugar to taste, stirring until dissolved. Bring to a simmer, then remove from heat. Pour into a mug and enjoy!
Various south American and African countries supply the world's cacao beans for chocolate. Recently some production in Australia and new zealand have been tried.
Mexico because they discovered the Cacao bean :) Canada, of course. Mexicans don't drink hot chocolate, preferring chocolate milk and milkshakes.
The first chocolate was usually cocoa powder made into a drink (similar to hot chocolate, or a spice cafe mocha drink). It was very bitter, as there was not sugar or milk added to it.
