Type your answer here...Coca-Cola raised their price from 5 to 10 cents in 1959. The company had wanted to raise the price, because of increasing production and shipping costs, earlier in the 1950's, but, as upgrading the vending machines to accept dimes had initially proved to be very expensive, the company absorbed the production costs as long as they could, until 1959. I have seen a few Coke machines from the mid to late 50's that accepted a 6 cent payment, but those machines are far and few between. As far as other brands of soda, I have seen Pepsi machines dating back to the mid to late 50's, that appeared to be all original, and they were 10 cent machines. Of course, there is a different between Coke and Pepsi, in that Coke was sold in much smaller bottles (8 fl oz) versus Pepsi (12 fl oz). That may have explained why Pepsi actually raised their price first. My best educated guess would be that if Pepsi and Coke were 10 cents by 1959 at the latest, then most all soda machines would have charged 10 cents by 1960.
