The first mobile phone in India was launched by the state-owned telecommunications company, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), in 1995. The service was introduced in collaboration with a private company, Modi Telstra. However, the concept of mobile phones was developed globally by Martin Cooper and his team at Motorola, who made the first mobile phone call in 1973. In India, the mobile revolution gained significant momentum in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
