It published Jane Eyre sometime in the mid-twentieth century. The company printed (prints) many books for school-aged children. They did not date their books published some decades ago- the same printings were used for many years. EVERY copy of Jane Eyre has a forward that is dated 1847, except the first printing. The forward was written for the Second Edition, and has been kept in every printing of the book since. So, just because that forward is there, does NOT mean the book was from 1847.
All of the books by Jane Austen published during her lifetime were anonymous. Two, Persuasion and Northanger Abbey, were not published until after she died, and they were under her own name. They came out together.
Yes, she published two more novels after publishing Jane Eyre in 1847, Shirley (1849) and Villette (1853). Another novel, The Professor, was published posthumously in 1857 by her husband.
Jane Austen was famous, but only as the author of anonymously published books. She got good reviews for most of her work, and her books sold out. She was a favorite author of the daughter of the Prince of Wales. But few people knew who she was.
