The Yucatan peninsula is located on the southern end of Mexico on the Caribbean side. It has a tropical climate with lots of charm. The capital of the State of Yucatan is Merida but the best landmarks would probably be Can Cun, Cozumel, or even the the Mayan ruins of ChiChen Itza.

Look on a map and it is at the bottom of the curve of the Gulf of Mexico.
