I don't think he spent a lot of time admiring past presidents, but everyone admired Washington and Jackson's shared many of Jefferson's views. He surely did not admire Quincy Adams and I think he had grave doubts about Monroe.
Jefferson had just won a hard-fought election after losing to Adams the first time. Adams created these positions and tried to fill them with Federalists on the last day he was in office. Jefferson thought there were already enought Federalist judges in the country.

Because he had made changes in the country and because Adams was jealous of Jackson and Adam made rumors about Jackson.
Franklin was never president, and Jefferson (republican) and Adams (federalist) were of different political parties with completely different views. [Jefferson and Adams were both president]

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were not friends. In fact, they were major political enemies. Strangely, Jefferson spent one term as Adams' vice president.
