The Name Sims Orginated in Spanish. It can be spelled Semmes, Sems and the English versions are Sims and Simms or even Syms. It is a Surname of Power. Several People when coming to the Americas Changed their Surnames to "Fit Into the New World." Several Cultures have Changed their Surnames Such as the "Surname Black" which in "Spanish is Negro or in French Noir" and by dropping the las letters of their surnames.

This was a common practice on the Gulf Coast of The United States where there was and still is a "melting pot" of cultures. The names are pronounced differently and the American Spelling and Pronounciation took over.

Severval Families dropped their entire names a created new surnames, at that time from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. For example: Noir and changed it to Norvelle. The Spanish and French names took lead, however; the "New Americas Names" prevailed.
