Metal - very good conductor of heat. Not a good insulator at all (Don't wrap cans in aluminum foil.) Glass - A little better resistor of heat energy transfer but still not great. Plastic - Depending on the exact material, plastic is probably your best bet. Especially if it's a foam of some sort; the air bubbles in the foam create barriers that heat energy has to cross to be able to escape.

But because the atoms are moving the energy or heat from water is allowed to escape past these molecules and cool the water.
This depends on the construction of the container but if the constructions are identical (the walls are equally thick, etc) the metal container will loose heat fastest. Different "plastics" have differing coefficients of thermal conductivity and so whether they conduct heat better or worse than glass depends on which "plastic" is in use.
