The cylinder heads are diffrent. Intake from 1998 truck will not bolt up to 1990 heads.

There are two cylinder heads on a V6 3.1L engine.
The casting number for LT1 cylinder heads is typically 14096217. This number can be found on the side of the cylinder head and is specific to the heads used in the 1992-1997 Chevrolet LT1 engines. It's important to verify the casting number to ensure compatibility with LT1 engine components.
It is located in the back by # 6 cylinder on top of the motor between the heads.
Intake valves are in the cylinder heads.

I know on my vortec engine the valve cover bolts are in the center of the cover and there is only 4, my racecar has vortec heads and my truck has standard stock heads with four bolts on thew corners
