It will give you more than enough time to save your work and shutdown the system, or start an alternative standby power source (such as a diesel-powered generator).

∙ 11y agoIt's called an 'Uninterruptable Power Supply' (UPS).... Basically - a UPS is a large capacitor - that stores power while connected to the mains. The circuitry in the UPS monitors the mains power. If the mains fails for any reason - the UPS switches over to its internal power store. This gives enough power for the user to continue working for a short time, allowing them to finish and save any work they're doing, and properly shut-down the computer.
