This will be difficult. You must remove the alternator to get to the themostat housing. While you are there, you may want to replace the Temp sensor too!

The thermostat in cars is usually located in a housing where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine.
the thermostat is located inside the small housing at the engine end of the lower radiator hose. remove the two bolts and the housing will be movable, exposing the thermostat
If it is a V8 Then follow the bottom radiator hose to the engine and it will clamp onto the thermostat housing. Remove that housing and it's there. If it is a V6 then follow the top radiator hose to the engine and it will clamp onto the thermostat housing. Then do the samething.

4cyl it is under the housing where the upper rad. hose hooks to the engine. 6cyl under where the lower hos goes on the engine.
Follow the lower rad hose,to the themostat housing. If you have power steering you need to drop the power steering pump down.
Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine block. The part the hose is connected to is the thermostat housing. The thermostat is under it.
Follow the upper Radiator house to the thermostat housing, there's 3 bolts holding it on. Take off the housing, remove the old thermostat, put in the new one and replace the housing. Make sure you drain the radiator first.
no yes a bb Chevy bell housing can fit a sbc. but you should remember that 10 in or a 10.5 in bell housing will not fit an 11 in pressure plate. Just make sure that the bell housing will fit the pressure plate and you'll be just fine.
