ANSWER

The only non-Galilean was Judas Iscariot. The name i"Iscariot" in Hebrew is "Ish Kerioth" meaning "man of Kerioth," a town in the tribe of Judah south of Jerusalem. He was probably the best-educated of all the disciples. His first hame "Judas" is the Greek form of "Judah". [make of that as you will']

Eleven of the twelve Disciples knew Jesus personally either because they were relatives, via friends, through fellow fishermen, or through the healing of their father.

  • Peter/Simon was a fisherman and a close friend of James and John
  • Andrew was a close friend of James and John
  • James and John were the son of Zebedee and cousins of Jesus..
  • James [James the Less} the Son of Alphaeus was a cousin of Jesus
  • Matthew aka Levi was son of Alphaeus, and was Jesus'uncle Alphaeus
  • Simon the Zealot was either a cousin of Jesus or His half-brother.
  • Philip was a fisherman and knew Jesus through his fellow fishermen and friends Andrew, James & John
  • Bartholomew knew Jesus through close friendship with Philip and likely Peter and Andrew
  • Thomas Didymus ["Doubting Thomas"] don't know how he heard of Jesus.
  • Judas Iscariot knew Jesus because his father [Simon the leper] was healed of leprosy

Of all the disciples, Thomas Didymus ["Doubting Thomas"] is the ONLY disciple which we don't know how he heard of Jesus.
