Meiosis? that is when one haploid cell devides into two diploid (gamete) cells, right? Whereas mitosis is complete cell repulation.

Hence, I'd say the difference is that DNA synthesis (two lots of DNA) are present in mitosis, whereas the genetic information is split in meiosis. - hence 23 chromosomes in a gamete, not 46.
