A golden retriever lab would shed more than a Border Collie Lab mix. Both are very good dogs, but I think that a Golden Retriever Lab mix's are more the family type and very loyal.
"Better"? Better for what? Border Collies generally have more drive, but Aussies are more adaptable, less quirky, and much better family dogs.

No, but it is amarketing ploy used by puppy mills. It is a hybrid between a Golden Retriever and a Collie, which creates a "Golden Collie".. They carry characteristics from both breeds, in essense a mutt, but they're typically family friendly, and can be a smart dog!
No. The breed referred to as just the "Collie" is a very different breed than the Border Collie. In fact, the Collie is usually called a Rough Collie or Smooth Collie, based on whether it has long or short hair. Some Hollywood examples of each: Lassie was a Collie. Fly from the movie Babe was a Border Collie. There are other breeds with Collie in the name, such as Bearded Collies, Farm Collies, Scotch Collies. Collie is a general herding type dog description.
The top 10 best family dogs would be: Beagle, Boxer, Collie, English Bulldog, Golden Retriever, Great Dane, Labrador Retriever, Newfoundland, Poodle, And Pug. So choose one of those fogs to be the (or one of the) family pets. But do your research!
It is all about preference. I prefer a Golden Retriever. There are good things and bad things about each one. If you are looking for more of a herding dog, then I recommend the Border Collie; however, I am sure that Golden Retrievers can be trained to herd. Golden Retrievers were originally bred to retrieve. Where the dog is going to live is also very important. Both of these breeds of dogs need lots of exercise. Golden Retrievers are also known to be great family pets. It just depends on so many things, but i hope you end up getting the right dog for you.
Collies are immensley loyal, unaggressive and other than the docile rough collie or sometimes the border collie, collies love meeting new people and they all love children and are devoted family members.
Certainly, I have a border collie and he's like my little brother even though hes very naughty. It depends on the temperament of the individual dog.
The scientific classification of border collies using the Taxonomic Biological Classification system is as follows: Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Carnivora Family: Canidae Genus: Canis Species: Canis lupus familiaris
