Ladakh is sometimes referred to as "Little Tibet" due to its strong cultural and historical ties to Tibet. The region shares many similarities with Tibet in terms of language, religion (mostly Tibetan Buddhism), and landscape. Additionally, Ladakh was historically influenced by Tibetan culture and was an important trade route between Tibet, Central Asia, and India.

Bhutan and Tibet also offer unique trekking opportunities, though access can be more restricted.
