There is no mention of Loki in The Lord of the Rings. Loki was a mischievous god in Celtic mythology.
There is a non-mythical dwarf in The Hobbit who possessed a Ring of Power. Thror, the father of Thrain gave one of the Seven Dwarven Rings to his son Thrain. This was taken from Thrain by the Necromancer.
Fafnir was a dwarf with a powerful arm and fearless soul. His father was dwarf king Hreidmar and his brothers where Regin and Otr. His brother Otr was killed by the god Loki. Loki was made to gather the ransom, which was to stuff Otr's skin with gold and cover his skin with red gold. Loki did this by gathering cursed gold that would bring death to whoever possessed it. Fafnir then killed his father to claim the gold for himself and went out into the wilderness to keep the gold. He eventually turned into a dragon (the symbol of greed) he breathed poison into the land so no one would go near him or his treasure. Regin then sent his foster son to kill Fafnir.
