Severe poverty and starvation in the working classes which appeared to be ignored by the monarchy, and many of the aristocrats, who led a life of great wealth and luxury. This led to the Revolution, a terrible uprising by the masses, in which many aristocrats were excecuted.
In the late 1700's, France was still paying debts accumulated in wars with Britain. Additionally there was high unemployment and some regions had several years of poor harvests. These contributed to the social unrest which culminated in the French Revolution in 1789.
