Rubidium (Rb)
Potassium (K) reacts most rapidly with water.
The Alkali metals (group 1) and the Alkali Earth metals (group 2) react violently with water. Lithium and magnesium show slow reactions in boiling water. Sodium and potassium reacts violently with flames with cool water. The elements in higher periods (strontium, barium etc.) react explosively.Elements in the 1st group react rapidly with cold water. The rate of reaction increases down the period. The elements in the 2nd group also reacts with hot water or steam.
One example of a chemical reaction where a substance reacts rapidly with oxygen is combustion. In combustion, a substance, such as a fuel like gasoline or wood, reacts with oxygen in the air to produce heat, light, and various combustion products like carbon dioxide and water vapor.
Sodium melts to form a silvery ball which moves about quickly on the water surface, producing hydrogen gas rapidly
Group one elements react vigorously with water. They even react when exposed to air.For example lithium reacts violently with water.
For example, water reacts with zinc, releasing hydrogen, an element.
When a piece of sodium is dropped into water, it reacts violently, producing hydrogen gas and heat. The reaction may lead to flames or an explosion due to the rapid release of hydrogen gas. This is because sodium is highly reactive with water, forming sodium hydroxide and releasing energy in the process.
When a dilute acid is dropped onto carbonates, a chemical reaction occurs where the acid reacts with the carbonate to produce carbon dioxide gas, water, and a salt. For example, when hydrochloric acid is dropped onto calcium carbonate, the reaction produces carbon dioxide gas, water, and calcium chloride.
Potassium reacts vigorously with water, as it is one of the most reactive alkali metals. When it does, it floats on top of the water, and burns a lilac flame. It also may explode. Fizzing and bubbling will also be seen as hydrogen gas is produced. The potassium reacts with the water to become a hydroxide (potassium hydroxide)
After this reaction alkaline hydroxides are formed and hydrogen is also released.
