The third estate
3rd estate owned land 70% during french revolution
The Third Estate (peasants and middle class professionals) paid the most taxes, yet they were the poorest
The third estate, made up of peasants, artisans and workers, which was 97% of the population, were those who benefited from the French Revolution. In particular the Bourgeoisie, a section of the third estate who were relatively wealthy, such as bankers, lawyers, doctors and other similar professions, benefited the most from the French Revolution because the Revolution put them in power. The first and the second estates, meaning the clergy and nobility, were the groups that lost the most from the French Revolution. They would not recover their pre-Revolution position until the Congress of Vienna of 1815 reinstated the French monarchy.
Most of the women of the third estate had to work for a living. They worked as seamstresses, laundresses, sold flowers, fruits and vegetables at the market, or were employed as domestic servants in the houses of prosperous people.
The French revolution was very, very violent! Thousands of people were murdered in the most horrifying way.
The Third. The nobility were exempt from most taxes, the clergy from nearly all.
The French Revolution was the most violent rebellion in history that began in 1789. The success of the American Revolution led the French to rebel in the hopes of a new government. It was during the time when Louis the XVIII and Marie Antoinette were in power. They were both incompetent and were unable to rule and fix the dire economic issues.
In France, the majority of people belonged to the Third Estate before the French Revolution. This estate encompassed the commoners, including the bourgeoisie (middle class) and peasants. They made up the largest portion of the population but held the least privilege and political power compared to the First and Second Estates (clergy and nobility).
No European Nation supported the French Revolution.
The most heroic figure of the French revolution was Napoleon, who defended the revolution from foreign intervention.
The social classes were: First Estate: The richest people in France. Paid no taxes. (clergy) Second Estate: Owned 35% of French land. Could move up to the first estate. Paid no taxes. (nobles, urban workers) Third Estate: Poor people. No say in running the country. Paid all taxes. Most of the French population. No chance to making it up to the second or first estate. (peasants, laborers)
