amunadsen followed by Scott
Roald Amundsen was a Norwegian explorer of polar regions. He led the Antarctic expedition (1910-12) to discover the South Pole in December 1911 and he was the first expedition leader to (undisputedly) reach the North Pole in 1926.[1][2]From Wikipedia
Roald Amundsen got to the South Pole 1st and just a month later, Robert Falcon Scot made it to the South Pole but sadly died on his journey back because of the cold and hunger.
The first person to make a solo trip to the South Pole was British explorer, Henry Worsley, in 2008. He completed the journey without any assistance, covering a distance of approximately 900 miles on foot.

Modern magnets are made from alloys of Al, Ni, Fe, and Co. Magnets have a north pole and a south pole. The magnetic lines of force on a magnet originate at the north pole and end at the south pole.
Richard Byrd is famous for being an American naval officer and explorer who made several flights over the North and South Poles in the early 20th century. He was the first to fly over the North Pole in 1926 and over the South Pole in 1929, establishing himself as a pioneer in polar exploration.
Roald Amundsen achieved many things in both the North and South Poles, however his journey in the South Pole is more known worldwide. Many things were named after him and he did not have achievements in the South Pole - he just achieved what he aimed to do there. This goal was to become the first person to reach both poles and it was fulfilled completely.

There are no naturally-occurring animals at the South Pole: it's too cold and there is no food chain. However, modern technology has made it possible -- with extreme logistics -- to support humans at the pole.
