A top feeder is easy to differentiate from a bottom feeder because of there mouth bottom feeders will also suck things in the tank. You can tell the difference between a middle and a top feeder because of where they swim most of the time like cardinals and angel fish.
That refers to where the fish eat; near the surface or towards the bottom of the tank.
It doesn't matter if they are bottom feeders! If ya smell what the rock-fish is cooking!
generally a special formulated fish food is sprinkled on the top of the water, and the fish will come to the surface and eat. there are also automated feeders for large tanks.
