I'm not sure why it didn't let me elaborate on this question. Anyway, my question is, in the U.S. Navy, which foot should you back step with first? Is it the same as forward marching, where you step off with the left? Or is it the opposite? Specifically, when you're in formation, and you're being dismissed, the detail/squad/platoon commander will address the squad and state that they've been dismissed. Then, each cadet/sailor should take one step back, render a hand salute, and wait for it to be returned by the commander. They should then return to the position of attention, perform an about face, and go about their business. So what I'm confused about, is which foot should I step back with? It'd be nice to hear this from a veteran! Thanks!

How do you salsa dance?

The heart of Salsa is rhythm and the core rhythm is the clave. The clave rhythm has variations based on Cuban rumba and son. Salsa is all about the steps in time with the music. Salsa is also about improvisation and being spontaneous (creating new moves). To dance salsa properly posture is important because your balance is controlled by posture, so you need to keep your head up and spine straight.TimingSome people count 123,567 as they do their steps. Some people say "left, right, left," "right, left, right" others play the clave rhythm and train their ears to follow this. Therefore this answer won't explain any counting but simply explain the steps. Here are some well established salsa steps: the mambo, the Cuban open step, and the back step. The mamboThe essence of the mambo step is to step forward with the left foot and step back or rock back with the right foot and then back with the left foot. Then you step back with the right foot and step forward or rock forward with the left and forward with the right foot.Open Cuban stepBefore you step, just bend your legs slightly to gather some energy and turn your left shoulder to the left and step back with the left foot, and rock to the centre with the right foot, then bring the shoulders back and feet together, then you do the same turning to the right with the right shoulder and stepping back with the right foot, then rocking forward and then bring the shoulders and feet to the centre. The back stepThe back step is as it says stepping back: we step back with the right foot, rock forward and bring the right feet together then we step back with the left foot, rock forward with the right foot and bring the left foot back to the centre. The above descriptions are the most basic steps you can do in salsa. Once you know the basic steps, you advance onto learning how to turn, pivot and spin. There are many websites which can suggest where to go to salsa dance , buy salsa music or find your nearest salsa club or class.

What is is salsa?

Step1 Get in position by facing your partner. If you are the leader, place your right hand on your partner's waist, slightly around the back. Extend your left arm diagonally to chest height with your elbow bent at a right angle and your palm raised. Grasp your partner's right hand in a loose grip; your partner's left hand should be on your right shoulder. Step2 On the first beat, step forward with your left foot. Your partner will mirror each of your movements throughout the dance; for example, on the first beat she will step backward with her right foot. Step3 Step in place with your right foot on the second beat. Step4 Step back with your left foot on the third beat so that you are back in the starting position, and hold in place for the fourth beat. Step5 Step back with your right foot on the fifth beat. Step6 Step in place with your left foot on the sixth beat. Step7 Step forward with your right foot on the seventh beat so that you are back in the starting position, and hold for the eighth beat. Step8 Repeat, starting at step 2.

Basic steps of boogie?

The Beginning Start with your feet next to each other and stand facing the center of the room. Step back with your left foot and step in place with your left foot. Bring your left foot forward and tap with your toe beside your right foot, then step in place with your left foot. Tap with your right toe and step in place with your right foot. As you tap your toe and step with each foot, try to turn your feet out a little so your toes are pointing a little away from your body. The rhythm should sound like this: "step, step, tap-step, tap-step, step, step, tap-step, tap-step". Gradually pick up speed as you feel comfortable doing these steps. The Turn Do the same steps as described in the first section. Add a turn by taking advantage of the "tap, step" patterns. Step back with your left foot, step in place with your right foot, and tap your left foot beside your right foot. Instead of stepping in place with your left foot, turn your body to the right and place your left foot to the right and at a 90-degree angle. You will be facing the back of the room. Tap with your right foot and as you step with your right foot, continue turning clockwise so that you are now with your right shoulder toward the center of the room. Step back with your right foot and continue turning clockwise so that you are facing the center of the room. As you continue with the pattern by tapping and stepping with your left foot, turn counter clockwise so that you will end up turning completely around the other way and end up facing front again. One way to think of the turn is that it is similar to a yo-yo on a string. Once you spin the yo-yo in one direction it stops, then begins turning in the opposite direction. With this turn you go in one direction, stop, then turn back in the direction you came. Practice the turn until you can do it up to tempo. Add a Partner While the man does the basic boogie steps back and forth described in section one, the woman can do the turn described in section two. As the man lifts his arm, the woman can turn beneath it, mirroring his steps and adding the turn as she does so.
