it really depends on what type of anemia. there are actually several different types...b12 deficiency, folic acid deficiency and iron deficiency...really need to know the specific type and there are actually tons of herbal remedies out there...
The type of anemia that is linked to a deficiency of folic acid is called megaloglastic anemia. It is characterized by large red blood cells that are immature, and thus don't function properly, and by neutrophils that have more segments in their nuclei than they should have (normally they have 3-4 segments). People with megaloblastic anemia also have a higher level of homocysteine in their blood.
There are different kinds or causes of anemia. What I've noticed about people with Hashimoto's, since it is an autoimmune condition, that they will develop antibodies to other tissues. This leads to a type of anemia that seems to come up quite often, that of a vitamin B12 deficiency anemia. For these people I recommend taking a sublingual form of B12 which bypasses the stomach and enters the blood stream directly. The problem is somehow related to a deficiency of Intrinsic Factor, produced by the stomach cells, which is like a carrier that pulls B12 from the intestines into the body.
