I think the ability to seek advice is more of a fruit of the spirit which we are instructed to seek before the gifts of the spirit. That would be a fruit of humbleness, surrender to the almighty wisdom and power and authority of our Lord.
A gift of knowledge or the gift of wisdom or prophecy would be to advise others. Jesus was given these gifts as he trusted, surrendered and loved our God. He did not have all the answers so he prayed and he listened. Listening is a part of prayer and the ability to hear His voice is a tremendous blessing. I've prayed for it and it takes deliberate awareness. His voice sounds like a thought so we often confuse it as our own ideas and unfortunately give ourselves the credit instead of thanking God and giving Him His glory due.
