The 1991 film, "The Silence of the Lambs" swept the Bests: Best Picture, Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins), Best Actress (Jodie Foster), Best Director (Jonathan Demme), and Best Writing (Ted Tally). To date (June 2009), the last horror film to be nominated for Best Picture was "The Sixth Sense" in 2000.
The only horror-ish movie to win Best Picture is The Silence of the Lambs (1991). I thought Carrie won too.
