There are lots of insects who have nymph stages to their growth pattern. probably the most dangerous is the mosquito which lays its eggs in pools of brackish water.
The eggs hatch into nymphs which in turn evolve into mosquitoes. the female mosquito can feed on human blood and in doing so pass on the malaria parasite into humans which kills hundreds of thousands of people every year.
On the other side of the coin is the most beautiful insect, the Dragon fly which also grows from a Nymph and is recognised by it's large wingspan and fantastical iridescent colours.
the mosquito spends the first part of their life on the water. Afterwards it develops wings and flies away.
Mosquito
there are no animals that live in water when young, but there are insects that live in water when young, like the mosquito larva. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Insects are, of course, animals. Other animals that live in the water are tadpoles, the young of frogs and toads.

no they would die under water
Insects who live on leaves absorb the Water either from the leaf or just drink from small water drops that have formed, especially in rain forests
Not all insects drown in water. In fact, quite a few live there for at least part of their lives. Insects breathe through holes in the sides of their bodies. If they can't get air in through the holes, they will suffocate. That's why insects that are not specialized for living in water will die in water. But dragonfly nymphs, mosquito larvae, and water beetles all live in water quite happily!
they eat tiny insects that live on water and land
Horseflies do not live in holes. These insects live near water. A female horsefly lays eggs on plants or near water.
