All brass instruments (except the sousaphone) have slides. They are used to adjust the pitch, sharp of flat. The instrument that is played using a slide is the Trombone. It also has a slide on the back that is used to tune, or adjust pitch.

What is the different slide trombone valve trombone?

A lot. Although they look similar they are played differently. The main difference is the mechanism used to create the notes/pitches. The valve trombone is basically a baritone horn in the shape of a trombone. It uses a combination of 3 valves like a trumpet to generate the different pitches by the vibration of the player's lips in the mouth piece and the combination of valves pressed down. A slide trombone uses a slide to change the wave length of the ptich combined with the vibration of the player's lips in the mouthpiece. Notes or pitches rely upon sound waves. To change pitch you change the length of the sound wave. The valve trombone uses valves to chnages the course of the air producing the sound wave to lengthen it or shorten it. The slide trombone does this by moving the slide up or down.

What does the trombone have that other brass instruments do not have?

What did french horn and trumpet players insert into their instruments to change the range of available pitches?

A trombone player uses a combination of the slide and his air to change pitches. For example if you start out playing a low c and go up to an a you need to move your slide and blow harder. If you are going from a b flat to an f though all you need to do is blow more air because they are located in the same position. Also if you are a too sharp or flat on a note you can use your tighten or loosen the corners of your lips to get the correct pitch.

Why does high power magnification change the area of the slide?

It doesn't change the area of the slide. What it changes is the area in the field of view.

What is different about the Trombone compared to the other brass instruments?

The trombone has a slide that can be moved to change the pitch of notes rather than valves or keys that lengthen the tubing to change the pitch of notes like other brass instruments. And there are a lot more than 3 other brass instruments.
