That's kind of backwards. A Bass Guitar is an Electric Guitar, but it can also be acoustic. Most bass Guitars are electric. They usually have four strings, and are lower in tone than the regular guitar. That's why they are called 'bass' guitars. They follow the chords of a song and bring out the low end of the sound, emphasizing with bass notes. There are five and six string bass guitars as well, but most are four string. Watch for the guy with a four string guitar on stage and you probably are looking at the bass guitarist. Listen for the low single notes being played and you are listening to the bass guitarist.

There is no definitive answer to that question; Both electric guitar AND Bass guitar have strong points, and neither is particulary easy to master than the other.

If you are considering buying one or the other, Go to your local music shop, try out both, and see which you prefer. However, if you would like to be in a band, it is usually easier to get a place if you play Bass guitar as it is a less common instrument.

If you're in a rock band you cant really have one without the other. a lot of people think electric is better, but bass is the backbone of the song, but ive never heard a bass solo, so you need both

---- Actually in Funk Rock and Progressive and even a lot of Ska/punk the bass is often the center of the song. Although in most mainstream rock bass is mostly there for filling the sound, a bad bass player is much more noticeable than a bad guitar player. Often bass players build upon the core notes of the key, but they can not be removed, especially since the notes chosen and the rhythm help define a songs genre. There are many bass solos, but people usually account them to a guitar: two of the most famous are in "Carry On My Wayward Song" by Kansas (actually the main riff) and "My Generation" by the Who.

Now electric guitars are what usually define melody for a band, but they can actually be building off the riff that the bass set with either its core notes of a chord or a riff. Guitars are more noticeable for their higher pitches, louder amp setting, usually more complex note patterns. But neither can be removed or compared. Even rhythm guitars can not be compared to bass guitars as they fill the sound in a different way.

Not necessarily at all. The bass guitar is just as complex as the guitar depending on how you choose to play it. Everything musical is a matter of your own personal preference. ================ Yes and no. The standard four-string bass guitar has fewer strings and they're farther apart, and most bass styles don't call for playing more than one note at a time (no chords). However, the bass is much heavier, with a much longer neck. And you need a great deal of finger strength on your fretting hand just to make the note sound. I'd say yes, bass is a little easier than guitar -- because it's much easier to play root-note, simple bass parts than to play even simple chords on guitar. You *can* make a song work by playing only steady eighth notes on the bass, but a song almost certainly wouldn't work if you only played root eighth notes on guitar. However, if you're trying to play like Flea or Jaco Pastorius, then bass is hardly easy at all. Some people can't get their heads around chords, so bass would be easier for them. Others don't know how to keep rhythm, so guitar might be easier. And let it be said that playing bass at the same time as singing is an extremely difficult exercise unless you're just playing steady notes with no deviation.
