Gta 4=better graphics, EDIT: great story, better physics and overall game engine, car realism, Targeting system, MOAR RUSSIANS, Character interaction, More accurate copy of city it is interpreting, 2nd largest game in space, most effective and greatest composition of all GTAs. ONLINE MULTIPLAYER, More enterable places (more than a 100 believe it or not), Barely no loading screens, More objects at once without de-texturization, 2 states. (yes, alderny is based of New jersey, and everywhere else is based off of New York), complex gps system, And improved vigilante missions, with most wanted, and more music stations.

gta sa= hairstyles,swimming underwater,more mods,10000 secrets (more like 70, and 350 hidden packages),get fat,get skinny,change clothes or buy new ones (you can that too in gta4, but less options),more stores (moreenterable stores) ,bigfoot (it isn't real) ,tattoos and over 100 more (what is a 100 more?) EDIT: Most space and area, gang wars, turf takeovers, lots of cars, car customization, more weapons, local multiplayer, Planes, and simplistic yet almost perfect level and world design, and many side missions.

Non-opinionated side: GTA:Sa is a very good game that you will not get bored of for a long time, with it's huge world, missions, collectibles, cars, variability, stats, weapons, myths, and many fan bases with load of fun things to do. GTA4, however, improves upon the technical problems GTA:SA had, adding Online multiplayer (Which eats up all your time, in a good way), makes everything more realistic, for it's dark approach, and it has many good characters, a great story, tons of little things (such as blood barrels scattered across liberty city), and either improves what GTA:SA had, or took it away. EX. You have a very well working health and damage system, but you can't fly planes or swim under-water. Overall, they are both good games, but you should choose GTA:SA If you can sacrifice realism for more abilities and local multiplayer, and you should choose GTA4 if you love online free roams and death matches, single player, and can deal with not being able to fly a plane for improved graphics and technicalities, or if you love realistic games and can't stand anything else.
