Which is better Pikmin or Pikmin 2?

The original Pikmin involves you hunting for 30 pieces of your ship within a limit of 30 days, with each day being 11 minutes real time. Thus, you have a time limit which makes the game more stressful than usual. If you like a challenge by getting items before time is up, then this game is for you. However, because you only have 30 days, the game will not last that long.

Pikmin 2, however, involves you searching for treasure (and even dead bodies of creatures you defeat) in order to pay back the 10,000 Pokos that led the company of Hocotate Freight into debt. Once your debt is paid, you can gather the remaining treasures, and after that you can still raise Pikmin. You have unlimited days to complete all of the tasks, which means some days can be spent just getting more Pikmin while others may involve completing two caves. Not only is there a challenge mode, but there is also a two-player mode to go along with the adventure mode. Most people select Pikmin 2 as the clearly better game, simply because it adds a two-player mode, a challenge mode, and a very intense and thorough story mode that you can accomplish at your own leisure.

The story is that, after the events of the first Pikmin, Olimar has managed to escape from the Distant Planet. He returns to his home planet of Hocotate, however, to find out that his employer, Hocotate Freight, has gone bankrupt. Louie, one of the workers, lost an extremely valuable cargo of golden pikpik carrots, and the company is now in debt for over 10,000 Pokos (the currency of Hocotate). Shocked at this, Olimar drops a bottle cap he found on the Distant Planet, which is spotted by the treasure-appraising ship nearby. It discovers that the cap is worth 100 Pokos. Because of this, the President of Hocotate Freight sends Olimar and Louie back to the Distant Planet to find more treasure, in order to pay off the company's debt.

Well, that is a matter of opinion. I personally like Pikmin 2 better because the game is really fun, creative puzzles, great (sometimes scary) caves, and 5 types of pikmin. Also, there is a longer story mode, no 30 day time limit, sprays, and an awesome 2 - player battle mode. The two captain system makes the game a lot more manageable. On the other hand, what makes Pikmin 2 better also makes Pikmin a lot more of a challenge. In pikmin 2 no time passes while you are under ground. This doesn't happen in Pikmin, even in boss fights. The enemies are tougher and the game isn't as easy. Only one captain makes vital multi-tasking more of a challenge. So, I like Pikmin 2 better but Pikmin is also a great game and I recommend checking out both.
