A laptop as you are able to work properly on it as unlike a itouch it is more of a Entertainment device but a laptop is a work device and entertainment device in one and by far the laptop is more compatible maybe you might be intrestested in some of apples other devices such as the macs you can more than likely get a deal on getting a mac and a itouch at a reasonable price check your nearest apple store.
