Which is better between public school and homeschool?

It really depends on the child, the family, and the situation.

For some families, homeschooling has a lot of advantages. There is a lot of one on one attention. You can really concentrate on the areas that a child is having more trouble with, and spend less times on the areas that the kids already have down. You can be a lot more hands on, and have more trips. You have more time for things like scouts, YMCA, community soccer, and so on. Homeschooling can also have its downsides too. Where most parents try to keep their kids active and involved, there are some that do not socialize their kids, or keep them up to par on their schooling. Some kids would really rather not be at home.

For other families, public school is a better option. For starters, not all parents are equipped or able to homeschool. Some have jobs that they are not able to leave. Others just don't have the patience. Homeschooling can be a financial strain. Public schools have larger events and more resources in some areas. There are labs for chemistry, football games, guidance councilors outside of the family, and experience with getting scholarships. Some kids learn better in a group setting. Like homeschool, it can also have downsides. There can be issues with bullying. If a child is not getting a subject, they can get left behind. There is a lot of negative peer pressure.

Really, the best thing is to examine your individual situation. There are many families that combine different types of schooling. In many states you can homeschool your child, then send them to public school for a class or two a day. In our own house, our oldest daughter does virtual school. She goes to school online with teachers and a set curriculum, but she does it from home. If you "do your homework" you can find what will work best for your family.
