For starters, you should not keep one guinea pig alone. It will die much sooner, cause it will feel very lonely. For the beginning, take two females. In terms of costs, this will make no big difference, since guinea pig food is not expensive. You will only need a a bit larger cage, but that's a one-time investment. Guinea pigs live up to 10 years, so think hard before you get one.
Make sure that the guinea pigs are both females before you buy them. Between their hind legs, just beside the legs, you will see small nipples, like in humans. If the pig is male it will be like a dot. If the pig is female, they will be like small pipettes, like something a baby guinea pig could suckle on.
Make sure you get good info on what to feed them, look up a website that deals just with guinea pigs.
Male guinea pigs are more cuddly, but they can hardly ever be kept together, unless one is neutered. If you take a male neutered guinea pig, taking one more but female will be the best solution for you at all, and also for the piggies.
There is no definitive answer to whether it is better to adopt a male or female kitten for a first-time pet owner. Both male and female kittens can make great pets, and the decision should be based on individual preferences and the specific needs of the owner. It is important to consider factors such as personality, behavior, and compatibility with the owner's lifestyle when choosing a kitten.

This happens often that you get a guinea pig from a pet store or neighbor that is already pregnant. Both females must have become pregnant from two different male guinea pigs or the same male. I would call that pet store or owner to complain about this, as unless you actually have no problem with buying a pregnant sow, the owner should be notified to keep his guinea pigs separate to prevent this from happening. The only good thing to come out of this is that you got more guinea pigs than you paid for.

Well, there is no best kind :) If you are just a first time pet owner though, get a short haired pig, they need to be groomed only like once a year :) (Please get you guinea pigs at a shelter not a shop!)
