Platinum is extremely long wearing and is very white, so it does not need to be rhodium plated like white gold does. Platinum is a prestige choice and is often chosen for its sophisticated appeal and popularity amongst the rich and famous. Platinum is normally not used in the full range of jewelry products due to its higher price.

Platinum is a metal, as such it can be used to make the body of the ring, alternatives to platinum include gold, silver and titanium among others.
Diamond is a gemstone, while rings often have gemstones this is not required. Other gemstones include rubies, sapphires and emeralds.

You can compare metals to metals, such as yellow gold, white gold and platinum (platinum being the most expensive) and you can compare diamonds to each other depending on the carat weight, cut, shape, color and clarity.
