A bay is a body of water partially surrounded by land, with a wide opening to the ocean. A peninsula is a piece of land that is almost completely surrounded by water but connected to a larger landmass by a narrow strip of land.

The Bay of Campeche, which is part of the larger Gulf of Mexico, is located west of the Yucatan Peninsula. It touches the Mexican states of Veracruz, Tabasco and Campeche, and is the area where most of Mexico's oil fields -- and its corresponding offshore platforms -- are located.
Puget SOUND (not bay) is in northwestern Washington state. Seattle and Tacoma are located on Puget sound.
The Door Peninsula is the peninsula located by Green Bay in Wisconsin. It separates the waters of Green Bay from Lake Michigan and is known for its picturesque landscapes, charming towns, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
A peninsula (which means "almost an island") is a relatively narrow body of land that sticks out into a body of water, and is surrounded on all sides but one by the water. (The other side is attached to a larger body of land.) A bay, on the other hand, is a body of water largely surrounded by land. Only a small part connects to the rest of the water (e.g., the ocean.)

The Iberian Peninsula is much larger than the Italian Peninsula. The Iberian Peninsula is about 590,000 km2 in area, while the Italian Peninsula is only about 300,000 km2 in area.
The city of Green Bay sits adjacent to the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin. But the city itself isn't on the peninsula.
Chesapeake Bay
