The primary purpose of the Confined Space Program Team (CSPT) is to ensure the safety of workers who enter confined spaces by developing and implementing procedures, training, and monitoring. The team is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and controlling hazards associated with confined spaces to prevent accidents and injuries.
The responsibility for coordinating the installation confined space program typically falls to the organization's safety manager or safety department. They are tasked with developing, implementing, and overseeing the program to ensure compliance with regulations and maintain a safe work environment for employees entering confined spaces.

The System Program Offices (SPOs) and MAJCOM weapons system managers will serve as OPR and engineering approval to each MAJCOM's Confined Space Program Team (CSPT) to ensure that: changes in maintenance procedures are adequately captured in the classification, and that classifications are addressed appropriately in technical documents
leads the installation Confined Space Program Team (CSPT), assists the functional manager in identifying training for confined space entry team members, and reviews and approves non-routine entry permits which are not contained in and organization's MEP
the CSPT assists commanders and functional managers in identifying, evaluating and classifying all confined spaces; assist with development of MEP's; establish procedures to review all construction projects to identify, record, and classify confined spaces.
