"Burn" wasn't a Whitesnake song; it was the title track of the first Deep Purple album to feature lead vocalist David Coverdale, who replaced Ian Gillian (from what is considered the "classic" DP lineup) in 1973. The album was released in February, 1974.
After Coverdale left DP in 1976, he released a solo album titled White Snake, and that, of course, later became the name of his band. The first true Whitesnake album was released in 1978.
