Crickets bats are usually made from willow. The best cricket bats are made from English willow. Cheaper bats, however, are not made from English willow. They are made from a cheaper willow that tends to crack easily. There are a number of woods that you can use to make a cricket bat, but Willow is the most common..

Salix alba var. cearulea
Cricket bats are traditionally made with English willow a variety of Salix alba. The handle is made from a cane plant (often Sarawak cane from Indonesia).
English Willow is the only suitable wood. The best type is English Willow Grade 1+. The worst type in terms of performance is Grade 4 English Willow, although it is still perfectly capable for club cricket. Kashmir willow should never be used as it WILL brake easily. DON'T be attracted by the price, you get what you pay for. There was a famous incident back in the 1970s when Dennis Lillee tried using an aluminum bat, but the authorities didn't take kindly to it and amended the laws so that willow was the only permitted material.
