Mount Kilimanjaro is situated on the Equator, so in a tropical climate and that is also the climate at ground level. But everywhere on Earth, temperatures drop when you go higher. That's why airplane pilots always tell you during the flight that it is minus 50 degrees outside. And it is because of its height that mount Kilimanjaro gradually gets colder when you climb up, and why at summit level, it is covered with snow.
No way to tell. Killimanjaro isn't that hard to ascend, so it was probably climbed fairly soon after that humans settled in that area.
