There is an island called Lundy which is managed by the Landmark and the National Trusy which is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, and I think it was England's first statutory Marine Nature Reserve, and the first Marine Conservation Zone , because of its unique flora and fauna.
Puffins also nest there in Spring.
You can go on day trips by catching the Oldenburg from Ilfracombe harbour, there are shops and a really good pub as well!
