Ahab 1 Kings 22:37-38
Jezebel was the wife of King Ahab of Israel. She was a Phoenician princess who promoted the worship of Baal and Asherah, which led to significant conflict with the prophet Elijah and the worship of Yahweh. Jezebel's influence over Ahab is often portrayed negatively in biblical accounts, highlighting her role in leading Israel into idolatry and immorality. Their relationship is emblematic of the tensions between differing religious beliefs in ancient Israel.
The wife of King Ahab who was King of Israel. Ahab was one if Israel's most evil kings, and Jezebel his wife was equally evil. She was the daughter of the King of Tyre, Ithobaal. She turned Ahab away from God to heathen gods and persuaded Ahab to rule over Israel as a tyrant. In the 2nd book of Kings, we are told that Jezebel is killed by the eunuchs in her palace at the request of Jehu, who then throw her out of the palace window to the street below. She is eaten by wild dogs, and only her skull, hands and feet remained, fulfilling a prophecy by Elijah in 1 kings 21:22-26. Because of her wickedness, the name 'Jezebel' has become a term of abuse for any woman who is regarded either as wicked or of loose morals.
Solomon was the ruler of Israel for over 40 years. After his death he was buried in the City of David.
The 44th King of Israel was King Ahaziah, who reigned over the northern kingdom of Israel for a brief period, approximately two years. He was the son of Ahab and Jezebel and is known for continuing the idolatrous practices of his parents. His reign ended when he was mortally wounded in a fall and subsequently died, leading to the ascension of his brother, Jehoram. Ahaziah's rule is noted for its alignment with the worship of Baal and conflict with the prophets of Yahweh.
Jeroboam fled to Egypt after he was threatened by King Solomon, who sought to kill him due to Jeroboam's rising influence and the prophecy that he would become king over Israel. In Egypt, he sought refuge until Solomon's death, after which he returned to Israel and became the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel.
