Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama) was an Indian prince born at Lumini

His personal name was Siddhartha a Sanskrit word "He Who Achieves His Goal".

He taught initially in north east India, at the time knowledge was taught in Sanskrit

In his teachings many Sanskrit words are used , this is why it is reasonable to think that Buddhism was taught in Sanskrit.
