The Pyrenees, The Vosges, The Jura, the "Massif Central" and the Alps make up the five major mountain systems of France.
The highest are "les Alpes" (the Alps) in the South-East, "les Pyrénées" (the Pyrenees) in the South-West, "le Massif Central" (in South central France).Lower and old eroded moutain ranges are "le Morvan", "les Vosges" and "le Jura", north of the Massif Central and the Alps. "Les Cévennes" are considered part of the Massif Central.

It is often argued that the Massif Central of France is more popular as a Skiing Attraction but statistically the French Alps are far more popular. therefore it is concluded that the alps are much more popular than the Massif Central as a skiing attraction but the Massif Central beats it in terms of greenery. -Dr. David Fibberdon,Cambridge University. ----
The five mountain ranges in France, by decreasing height:- The French Alps, (on the Italian border - hosts the 'Mont Blanc, Europe's highest peak, 4810 meters),- Pyrénées, (on the South, straddling the Spanish border),- [Massif du] Jura, (on the East alongside Switzerland)- Massif Central, (in central/ South central France)- Vosges (Eastern France)
