Most commonly it is C drive but Hard drives can use any letter in the Alphabet (A-z. Usually when a floppy drive is available it makes itself A drive. and a dvd/cd player usually makes itself D or E. but these are automatically assigned these letters and you can change the letters of the drive (not by renaming won't work like that).
The convention of assigning letters to drives is mainly a MS-DOS/Windows thing. (It happens in other operating systems as well, like VM/CMS in which the drives are actually "virtual" drives, but I assume you're talking about the much more widely known Windows operating system.)
Technically you can assign whatever letter you want to a drive, but by tradition the first hard drive is usually C (A and B were used for floppy drives, back when computers actually had floppy drives).
hi and i think i can answear your question on mine i goto computer yab on start and its says Acer (C:) and that is my main hard drive so im guessing its C:
I know E, C and D are three.
C
\\C:
C: drive is the main hard drive on your computer. Hard drives are identified by letter, with C: being reserved for the first bootable drive in a computer.
The default identity letter for the internal drive of a computer - is C.
Any hard drive can be assigned any letter. It is possible that drive Q could be a network location on another computer, or a virtual drive created by a program on the computer.
c
drive letter of an USB drive can be any letter from E to Z, It also can be D if you don't have DVD drive connected to the computer &C is the hard-disk drive needed for the Windows. It depends on the hard disk partition you had made.
Go to system settings when the computer starts to boot up, and then it will show you what drive is your hard drive. The hard drive is what the computer normally boots in unless changed and the letter is normally C:/
The hard drive is not included. This is just an enclosure. Once you add a drive and plug it into a USB port, It would show up under my computer as a drive letter.
hard drive on the computer, it does the programming
It is a mass storage device. They are generally referred to by a letter, such as 'C Drive'.
You have no hard drives listed. You have the ability to assign any drive letter (except the Main 'C' ) to your hard drives using "Computer Management"
Hard Drive E
The data hard drive or just hard drive is where all your programs are stored when your computer is shut down. Every progam you see on your computer is stored on the hard drive. That's why the bigger the hard drive the more programs you can put on your computer.
