Well it all depends, on just what you mean by "olden", there was many communication methods: Messengers, Pegeons that carried notes, some say Indians used to use smoke as a form of communication. The is all i can remember for now hope it helped
Not to sound sarcastic, but this depends on what is meant by "communication" & "olden days." Communication can be interpreted to mean writing, ways/means of transmitting information, trade, etc., and olden days could mean everything from prehistoric times to the 19th Century.
