The metric unit of mass is the kilogram, if you are weighing something light, you would still be weighing in kilograms, but instead of writing 0.001kg you would call it 1 gram; instead of 0.0000010kg you would say 10mg. The adding or subtracting of a prefix doesn't change the unit, it's always kilograms but for ease of use we use a slightly different word to describe whether it's a thousandth to a millionth of a kilogram.
An adult octopus would be measured in kilograms.
Carat IS a metric unit of mass
No mililimeter can weigh a gram. A gram is a metric unit of weight, and a millimeter is a metric unit of length or distance.

The Newton is the metric unit for weight. The unit is:kilogram meters per seconds squaredorkg . m/sec2.Also, one pound equals 4.44822162 Newtons.
The metric (SI) unit for weight is the newton, since weight is a force. When people talk about "weight", they sometimes actually mean "mass". The unit for mass is the kilogram.
The metric unit is a millilitre. The metric unit is a millilitre. The metric unit is a millilitre. The metric unit is a millilitre.
Kilograms. Kilogram is the base unit of mass, all other mass units are multiples or divisions of a kilogram. An adult male who is about 1.77 metres tall should weigh between 70 and 80 kilograms.
That depends what aspect of the adult you want to measure: the adult's height, mass, weight, volume, albedo, intelligence (no SI unit for that!), etc.
A Newton, though a millinewton may seem more appropriate.
