You possibly mean VE day and VJ day. Victory in Europe and Victory over Japan. They were two different dates and were celebrated as such in the 1950s.
There is no Y day celebrated or commemorated. You are probably referring to V E Day or V J Day which are the days we celebrate victory in Europe and Japan. Those days are celebrated May 8th for the 5/8/1945 VE Day and VJ day is celebrated August 15 for the 8/15/1945 victory day.
